Part of the Saronic Islands, Hydra is one of the most distinctive and historic of all the Greek islands, located in the Aegean Sea between the Argolic and Saronic Gulfs. In order to preserve the island's clear air and tranquility, no motor vehicles are allowed on the island, and instead bicycles, donkeys, and water taxis provide easy transportation, but most residents walk everywhere. Just 37 nautical miles south of Athens, Hydra attracts artists and celebrities who appreciate its beauty and quality of life. The island's only main town, "Hydra Port" consists of a harbor which is overlooked by beautiful square-shaped mansions with ceramic-tile roofs. The strong maritime culture promotes yachting, and is home to the Kamini Yacht Club.
