London (August 1, 2021) — Christie’s International Real Estate proudly welcomes the network’s newest Affiliate, Luxury Estates Mallorca on the island of Mallorca. Founder Patrick Pawlowski, born in Cologne, studied as an electronics technician, and as he also is a state-certified structural engineer he then worked in construction and rose to project manager in a German architectural firm. He came to Mallorca in 2007 and has worked in real estate ever since and founded his own real estate company in 2009.
Andrea Berchtold, partner, is a Swiss native who lived in Moscow, Kiev and Florence before studying Fine and Decorative Art at Christie’s in London. She moved from Madrid to Mallorca in 2004 and has been working in real estate since.
Said Georgina James of Christie’s International Real Estate: “The Christie’s brand recognizes fine real estate as an art form. Luxury Estates Mallorca fully embodies this passion.”
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and one of the most popular destinations in Europe, first popularized by Spanish royalty, because of its mild Mediterranean climate with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. It offers long, sandy beaches, deep-water dockage that welcome mega-yachts and a variety of lifestyles. The southwest of Mallorca is the most prestigious coastline with Port Andratx and Puerto Portals being the two main hotspots. These areas attract the global A-list and so are quite cosmopolitan.
The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range towers over the northwest coast, a region known for its olive groves, pine forests, ochre villages, and a spectacular rugged coastline, designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The south and east coasts are dotted with sandy coves and small villages, while the center of the island is noted for its large noble estates and equestrian facilities. Palma, the capital, is small enough to walk around it in an hour while sophisticated enough to support Michelin-starred restaurants, high-end boutiques and art galleries as well as a vibrant music scene.
There are 23 golf courses on the island, top-tier schools and excellent medical facilities. The airport at Palma has been updated and is now the third largest in Spain, offering daily commercial flights to major European cities, as well as accommodations for private planes.
Total volume of properties sold on the island is nearly €4 billion. Foreign buyers, the second home market, account for 45% of property sales, as the market is highly active with holiday properties turning over on average every five years, primarily for upgrades and transitioning to a primary residence during the pandemic. Foreign buyers also account for 40% of total sales. The average sales price in the second home market has risen steadily since 2015 and reached €1.5 million last year.
Said Mr. Berchtold: “After having been very successful in high end real estate for over a decade, we are thrilled to join the Christie’s International Real Estate network as their representative on Mallorca and to continue giving the best service we can to our clients. We look forward to being part of the world’s leading luxury real estate network and providing our local expertise to global clients. And as Andrea has studied at Christie’s Education, we feel a special connection with the brand and the values it represents.”
