Maxwell-Storrie-Baynes Announces the Sale of Yet Another Beautiful Vineyard Estate in Cotes de Bordeaux

The Bordeaux vineyard experts of Maxwell-Storrie-Baynes, exclusive Affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate in Southwest France, announced the sale of Chateau Pabus, located in Cotes de Bordeaux, for €1,990,000 to an investment manager from New York.

The new owner plans to take what was already a very high quality wine, “Pabus Cent Percent,” to its maximum potential using techniques and tactics normally only employed by the Premier Grand Crus. His objective is to offer a “boutique” wine that is as esteemed as the investment grade wines but a fraction of the cost. Investments and upgrades to the winemaking facilities and vineyard will commence immediately.

Michael Baynes, partner at Maxwell-Storrie-Baynes comments, “There is a great deal of attention on the Chinese in Bordeaux at the moment, and for good reason. However, in the last eight months we have sold three beautiful chateaux all to New Yorkers. The Americans' love for Bordeaux is as strong as ever, and while the Chinese are seeking large, high volume businesses, the Americans are focusing on small, high quality product.”

The seller Mr. Kris Couvent, of the well-known Belgian wine negoçiante company Huis Vossen, will remain with the new enterprise to fulfill the new owner’s objectives, “I am delighted to take Pabus to the next level and we are looking forward to this US-Belgian collaboration in a place that we both feel very passionate about.”

The beautiful chateau, dating from the late 18th-Century, is believed to be designed by Victor Louis, the architect of the Bordeaux Opera House. Close to the busy market town of Creon and 20 minutes from Bordeaux with its international airport and TGV links, the six-bedroom property lies in a lovely park with mature trees, two enclosed ponds, and spectacular views over the vineyard.
