Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Tours Harry Norman, Realtors Listing

(L to R): Jack Talley, Betty Balentine, Dawn Mullins, Laura Dupree, Keith Summerour

The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Southeast chose The Balentine House at 3015 Andrews Drive in Atlanta, Georgia to hold a special members only tour earlier this month. The event was sponsored by listing agent Dawn Mullins of the city's Christie's International Real Estate exclusive Affiliate Harry Norman, REALTORS®, and featured guest speaker Keith Summerour, lead architect of the home’s renovations in 2000 and 2004.

Originally constructed in 1929, the home was designed by Sigmund Nesselroth, the Harvard educated architect who designed the award-wining Alabama Power building in 1925. The façade of 3015 Andrews was constructed with reclaimed granite from the original First Baptist church on Peachtree, wrought leaded glass windows and a Vermont slate roof.

In 2000, Summerour and Associates was commissioned to remodel the master suite to include dual baths and dressing rooms.  In 2004, Summerour designed a new wing to the home that included a kitchen, exterior stone porch, Pilates studio, art studio and attached garage. For the addition, granite was found to match the current exterior and each block was hand cut, a process that took more than two years to complete. For Summerour, keeping the existing look and feel of the home even after the renovation was the main objective of the project.

“Our goal was to make the old and the new nearly impossible to distinguish, while still incorporating the updates the homeowners wanted. As you walk around this house, I think you will see that vision was accomplished,” Summerour said.

Other guests in attendance included designer and architect Laura Dupree, ICAA Membership Committee Chair Judy Talley, homeowners Robert and Betty Balentine and several other members of the ICAA.

3015 Andrew Drive is currently listed for sale by Harry Norman, REALTORS® for US$6.5 million.
