Top of the Ridge Evokes a Lifestyle of Elegance Influenced by 20th Century Modernism and the Dictates of Desert Living

Offered at $18,5m, the estate is an iconic example of "Desert Modernism" designed by famous architect

Top of the Ridge is spectacularly situated in Rancho Mirage, California, an area renowned for its mid-century modern architecture and the home of “Desert Modernism”.  Majestically poised atop a mountain this estate enjoys grand views of the surrounding mountains and the sprawling desert floor; the sleek modern lines and minimal interiors of the property are in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment.

The expansive main house which was completed in 2012, measures more than 12,000 square feet and is part of the Mirada Estates, a gated community with 24-hour security service. Mirada Estates are custom-built residences, each maintaining a high level of uniqueness and integrity.

Top of the Ridge sits on nearly three acres of land and includes all modern amenities that define an elegant lifestyle. The entrance to the property is quite impressive through doors made of artisan-crafted bronze and steel pulls which complement the overall “arc” design concept.

The owners commissioned David Prest of Prest Vuksic Architects, who has practiced architecture in the greater Palm Springs area for more than thirty years, to design a home that would embrace the desert landscape with a modern take. The dazzling interiors are the work of Randy Patton. Several varieties of stone flooring, sandstone walls and colorful desert tones render this contemporary masterpiece warm and inviting. The intimate dining room features a mahogany table illuminated by a custom-made chandelier of semi-precious stones.

The residence, which comes furnished benefits from ample natural light from the generously proportioned floor-to-ceiling windows glass façade surrounding the house. The main house includes three bedrooms, four full baths, and two half baths each with a panoramic views. The kitchen opens up into a family-room and a large office is flanked by a private fitness center. There is also a guest house spanning 1,800 square feet which was designed to provide a fine luxury hotel suite experience with a full kitchen, a full bath, a living room, as well as a large patio for alfresco dining.

“The property is expansive, exceptionally modern and aesthetically unique” says Zachary Wright, Senior Vice President of Christie’s International Real Estate. “Its meticulous architectural detail and sleek lines blend wonderfully with the dramatic mountain views and desert landscape.”

Outside, the residence offers amenities that are ideal for entertaining, including an outdoor kitchen with a refrigerator, an infinity pool with a fire pit, and a covered patio. Other outstanding features include a home theatre, a sixty-foot skylight, two large backlit onyx fireplaces, and a lush Zen garden the highlight of the overall landscaping created by Wayne C. Connor.

Situated in the heart of the Palm Springs Valley, Rancho Mirage is primarily a residential community nestled at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, and conveniently close to the Southern California’s freeway system.
