Also known as East Anglia, the East of England is defined by its unspoilt coastline and rich agricultural heritage, due to its dry summer climate and lowland topography. The region includes the home counties of Essex and Hertfordshire, which border London; Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire; and the rural counties of Norfolk and Suffolk on the North Sea coast. East Anglia's myriad historic landmarks include the world-renowned University of Cambridge; the Sandringham Estate royal residence; medieval cathedrals, abbeys, and castles; Stone-Age and Anglo-Saxon archeological sites; and picturesque Tudor villages. The area is also home to a number of designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty including the Norfolk Broads inland waterways, the North Norfolk and Suffolk coasts, and Dedham Vale.

South East England is the UK's most populous region and incorporates London, the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, and Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight in the English Channel. In addition to London's iconic landmarks including the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and Westminster Abbey, the South East is home to the University of Oxford, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace and a host of national heritage sites. Historic cities, towns, and villages are set against a backdrop of verdant hills, ancient forests, and dramatic coastline. As well as the capital's world-class shopping, restaurants, and entertainment venues, the region hosts such premier sporting events as the Wimbledon Championships, Royal Ascot, and the Henley Royal Regatta.

As the capital city of both England and the UK, London is brimming with wonderful architecture from all eras and international culture.
