John Kluge’s Florida Compound, Casa Sin Nombre, on the Market for $59 Million
Proceeds from the sale of the estate, featuring a 1921 Addison Mizner designed house, earmarked for student scholarships at Columbia University
Palm Beach, Florida—John Kluge, once ranked by Forbes as the world’s wealthiest individual, acquired an exceptional collection of oceanfront properties over the course of thirty years in this exclusive beach enclave. The compound in the heart of Palm Beach’s estate section —originally comprised of five residences on lushly landscaped grounds—is offered for sale at US$59 million.
Combining five parcels of land in 1995, Kluge created a magnificent “trophy” estate which he named Casa Sin Nombre. It is comprised of exotically landscaped grounds with more than 21,000 square feet of living areas including the renovated and expanded 12,000square foot garden house built in 1935 which Kluge used as his residence, a 6,000 square foot ocean-front house designed in 1921 by society architect Addison Mizner in the Mediterranean Revival style and three separate buildings to accommodate staff and/or guests.
The property, used frequently by Mr. Kluge for charity events, is considered to be one of Palm Beach’s most iconic estates. The ultra-private, over four acre compound is replete with exceptional ocean views and is ideally situated within easy distance of Worth Avenue stretching between Ocean Boulevard and South County Road.
Kluge donated the estate to his alma mater, Columbia University. The donation is part of a $400 million pledge made by Mr. Kluge to Columbia in 2007, earmarked exclusively for student scholarships. Mr. Kluge’s pledge to Columbia is the largest ever devoted exclusively to student aid at a single institution of higher education in the U.S.
Brown Harris Stevens agents, Carol Digges and Carole Hogan are representing the property on behalf of Columbia University. Christie’s International Real Estate will provide global marketing services.
