Bequia stretches across 18 square kilometers, with approximately 5300 residents and sits just south of the main island, Saint Vincent. The local residents have both African, Scottish, and Caribbean roots. The oldest homestead on the island is Port Elizabeth, sitting in the protected Admiralty Bay on the western end of the island. The harbour is trafficked by two ferry lines from Kingstown and Saint Vincent and is popular among sailors and cruise ships. Everything from whaling ships to two-masted schooners have been built on the beaches surrounding Admiralty Bay as well as elsewhere on the island. They were built with the local tree wood White Cedar (Tabebuia heterophylla), which there is plenty of on the island. Wooden boats are still built on the island today. It is believed that Captain Blackbeard prepared his pirate ships in Admiralty Bay during the 1700s, which was then called Privateers Bay as it was the safest natural harbour in the eastern Caribbeans during the hurricane season. Mount Pleasant villa sits high above Port Elizabeth and offers one of Bequia's most entrancing views. This modern villa was built in 2013 and has been drawn by the castle architect Jacob Hidemark. It houses large window sections, letting in plenty of light to the many open spaces. The villa has been designed and built in harmony with nature and offers a large, relaxing terrace with a pool and a fantastic view of the harbour and ocean. The whole patio floats together seamlessly with the surrounding gardens where tropical flowers and mature fruit trees like banana, pomegranates, and avocados grow without abandon. The villa consists of four bedrooms and has been sectioned into two separate parts, with every single detail meticulously cared for. In the first part you'll find facilities such as a large, open, and social kitchen sitting adjacent to the terrace on the ground floor, and a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and its own veranda sitting on the second floor. Here, you can relax in the hammock and gaze out over the beautiful bay in the sunset. In the other section of the villa there are two additional bedrooms with their own ensuite bathrooms, as well as an airy kitchen with its own terrace. On the ground floor there is also a fully fitted studio apartment with its own kitchen, a private terrace, and its own entryway which can be reached directly from the parking area. All details and materials have been painstakingly chosen by the previous owner who built the villa, and are all of highest quality. To get to Bequia Island, you arrive either by flight, private boat, or ferry to Barbados or Saint Lucia - there are daily international flights from London, New York, Toronto, Miami, and Atlanta. Alternatively you can also fly to the island Saint Vincent, which is served by weekly flights from London, Miami, Toronto, and New York, and then take the ferry to Bequia Island.
